LEKKI CONSERVATION CENTER


Lekki Conservation Center was established in 1990 by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF). It is one of Africa’s prominent and most-diverse urban Nature Parks due to its high species richness. It is one of the best Urban park to satisfy visitors that are curious of Nature cause it is one of the listed sites by Lagos State Government for preservation and protection of historical properties and cultural heritage. It is endowed with an abundance of plant and animal life. It has also been recognise as one of the notable sites of special interest.

Mona Monkeys

It is located in the coastal environs covering an approximate land area of 78 hectares, extending from kilometer 19 along the Lagos-Epe Expressway and ends up a very close distance to the Atlantic Ocean near Okun Ibeju Village, Eti-Osa Local Government Area in the Eastern district of Lagos State. It can be assessed through the Lagos-Epe Expressway. 

Features

  • Lekki Conservation Center has 401-metre long canopy walkway is a scenic attraction. This is said to be the longest canopy walkway in Africa. It offers Africa excellent nature walks and enable viewing of animals like monkeys, crocodiles, snakes and various birds.

  • Tree house which is a twenty-one meters-high tree platform where one can have a panoramic view of the picnic area, reserve, visitor’s center and children’s playground among the trees.

  • A cone-shaped structure which functions as the auditorium for lectures, conferences and seminars.



  • Nature station/reserve: This is a popular site for school excursion cause it has vegetation type such as secondary forest, swamp forest and Savanna grassland. Several bird species can be seen here.

  • Bird hide that overlooks a swamp/marsh which is home to crocodiles and monitor lizards.

  • A trail boardwalk was constructed in 1992 to enrich tourists view of the vast resources of the nature reserve. Side attractions along the trail includes swamp outlook, bird hide, rest stops and the tree house.


  • Family Park is a world-class picnic haven and offers nature walks, picnic & sporting facilities.  
Others include a Barbecue joint, Rounda, Jungle gym facilities such as monkey bars, Tilapia Ponds and so many others.
